A practical format for web images.

WebP can combine photographic compression with transparency in one file. This tool uses your browser’s WebP encoder in lossy mode, even if the source was lossless. A quality setting around 80% is a good first check for web photos. Inspect sharp lettering and flat-color artwork more carefully.

Smaller is not always better.

An already compressed WebP may have little room for improvement. We keep the original if the new encoding is larger. With a target enabled, we search quality settings and then reduce dimensions if necessary. The reported savings compare your download with the exact original file you selected.

Browser support and transparent images.

Current browsers generally support still WebP encoding. If your browser cannot encode it, the tool reports an error instead of giving you a PNG with a WebP filename. Transparent areas stay transparent. Animated WebP files are rejected because preserving all frames needs a different pipeline.

Start with Auto and 80% quality. The file keeps its WebP extension and original dimensions unless a target is chosen.

Before you download: Compare fabric texture and product lettering. Re-encoding an already small WebP may offer little saving; the original is retained when smaller.

A transparent cutout with a 200 KB budget

Choose 200 KB. Transparency remains available in WebP while the compressor searches quality and, if necessary, dimensions.

Before you download: Inspect semitransparent edges and final pixel dimensions. The native output can be lossy even when the source WebP was lossless.

Will a lossless WebP stay lossless?

Not necessarily. The native encoder used here creates a lossy WebP result. Keep the original when pixel-perfect preservation is essential.

Can I convert WebP to JPG here?

This version keeps your source format. A separate format conversion tool is planned, including explicit background controls for transparent images.
