The simplest way to protect your photos is to never receive them.
What happens to your images
When you select a file, your browser reads and compresses it locally. Image bytes, names, previews and metadata are not sent to our server or a third-party image service. ZIP downloads are also created locally. No image account, cloud storage, or browser storage is used.
Temporary memory and downloads
The page keeps the selected files and results in memory while you work. Clear all, remove a file, or close the page to release those references. Downloaded files remain wherever your browser saves them. You control those copies.
Metadata and orientation
Re-encoded images omit the source EXIF metadata, including camera and GPS information, and use the browser’s interpretation of image orientation. If the original is already smaller than the re-encoded output, we retain it and display a warning that metadata may remain. This compressor is not a certified metadata sanitizer. Color profiles and other encoding details can change.
Website requests
Your browser still requests the website’s HTML, styles and scripts. The hosting provider may process routine connection information such as IP addresses and request logs to serve and protect the site. Your images are not part of those requests.
Traffic and performance analytics
Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page visits and website performance. Its browser beacon sends measurements such as the page URL, referrer, browser and timing information to Cloudflare. It does not use analytics cookies or localStorage to identify visitors. Cloudflare also receives ordinary network connection information when serving the website. These website requests are separate from image processing: we do not send photo bytes, selected filenames, previews or EXIF data to analytics.
The compressor’s local event hook is not connected to an analytics service. There are no advertising scripts or session recordings. You can block the Cloudflare analytics beacon and still use the compressor. Read Cloudflare’s Web Analytics description for more about the service.
